Student Sustainability Leadership Awards
University of Galway Student Sustainability Leadership Awards 2024
The University of Galway Student Sustainability Leadership Awards Programme launched on February 20th, 20024.
We are delighted to announce that Molly Hickey and Peter O'Neill are the 2024 recipients of these awards.

Open to all University of Galway students, the Student Sustainability Leadership Awards programme rewards successful applicants with an 8-week Summer internship, to the value of €500/week, to support the implementation of the University's Sustainability Strategy targets and objectives.
The central aim of the award programme is to develop student leaders that are dedicated and enthusiastic about creating a more sustainable campus and community.
University of Galway Student Sustainability Leadership Awards 2023
Student Sustainability Internships were awarded to Adam Mullins and Ciara Varley for AY22 - 23. Over the next eight weeks, the interns will work with the university's Sustainability team to raise awareness of sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals across campus.
Adam has been awarded a scholarship to carry out research on the University of Galway's progress on the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as contributing to creation of an upcoming SDG Showcase event for September 2023!
Ciara has received a scholarship to create sustainability-related communication materials. Alongside refreshing our website, Ciara is contributing to the development of the University of Galway's new SDG trail and refreshing our sustainability-related content to reflect the University of Galway's recently awarded status of SDG Champion for 2023/24.
University of Galway Student Sustainability Leadership Awards 2021/22
Student Sustainability Internships were awarded to Malena Thren and Sophie O'Byrne for AY21-22. Throughout the year, the interns worked to raise awareness about campus sustainability, as well as sustainability in general.
Malena worked towards the Battle of the Buildings Energy Competition. She designed an articulate module in Energy Awareness and also led the rollout of an Energy Awareness week.
Sophie wrote and designed the Student Sustainability Toolkit. She led communication on our social media platforms, Twitter (@GaillimhSustain) and Instagram (@uniofgalwaysustainability), as well as regularly revamping and updating our website.
